When my middle school daughter wanted some easy gifts to give out to her friends for Valentine’s Day, I came up with this simple DIY notebook and pen gift idea. All the supplies came from the dollar store, which made it inexpensive. I think I spent around $7 for 12 sets. Her friends loved them!

We made these notebook and pen sets for Valentines gifts, but they would also work for a number of other easy gift ideas:

Supplies Needed

*Many of the supplies needed for this DIY notebook and pen gift can be found at the dollar store. However, I have included links to the supplies for additional options and convenience.

• Small spiral notebook
• Gel pens
• Washi tape
• Baker’s twine
• White cardstock
• Scissors or paper trimmer
• Hole punch

How to Make a DIY Notebook and Pen Gift

First, use your washi tape to secure the gel pens to the cover of the notebook. We paired two gel pens with each notebook.

Next, cut your cardstock into a small square or rectangle to make a tag. Punch a hole in the corner. Thread the baker’s twine through the hole, then through one of the spirals on the notebook. Tie the twine in a bow to secure the tag.

Last, write a note on the tag. I’ve included a few ideas below of messages you could write on the tags.
