Thanksgiving Pie Garland with {FREE} SVG File

Use this free Thanksgiving pie garland SVG to create a fun and festive holiday decoration you can leave up all month long.

When I married into my husband’s family, I had no idea how serious they were about their pies. The only pie I’d grown up eating was pumpkin and that was around Thanksgiving. But my in-laws make pies year round and are an especially important part of Thanksgiving dinner: apple, cherry, pumpkin, lemon meringue, triple berry, peach and so on. If there are less than 5 varieties of pie at Thanksgiving…actually, I’m not sure that’s ever happened.

Regardless of how you feel about pie, this Thanksgiving Pie Garland is a fun and festive decoration to have up all November (or October for my Canadian friends). I have a detailed tutorial on how to make this Thankgiving garland and when you’re done, you might just be craving your own piece of pie. (My cherry pie bars are an easy alternative in case your pie crust abilities aren’t quite where you’d like them to be.)

This tutorial shows three different types of pie: pumpkin, pecan and apple. But you could change these up or add another variety by using a different color of card stock. For example, red card stock with a lattice overlay becomes cherry pie. Add a pom pom or cotton ball for the whipped cream!

Let’s get started!

Materials Needed for Thanksgiving Pie Garland

• Personal Cutting Machine (Silhouette, Cricut, etc)
• Cutting mat (Silhouette, Cricut)
• Thanksgiving Pie Garland SVG files (includes pie pieces, crust and lattice – see below)
• Cardstock, in desired colors (see below for exact colors used in the tutorial)
  • Bazzill, 12×12 cardstock, color: Almond Cream, Qty: 2 (tan for crust and lattice) (link to similar)
  • Bazzill, 12×12 cardstock, color: Boardwalk, Qty: 2 (dark brown for pecan pie) (link to similar)
  • Bazzill, 12×12 cardstock, color: Pumpkin Patch, Qty: 2 (dark orange for pumpkin pie) (link to similar)
  • American Crafts, 8.5×11 cardstock, color: Gold Linen, Qty: 2 (metallic gold for apple pie) (link to similar)
• Glue gun
• Glue sticks
• Glue gun stand (optional)
• Roller tape
• Baker’s twine, in coordinating color (link to similar)
• Large-eye blunt end needle
• Pompoms or cotton balls (for whipped cream)

How to Get the {FREE} Thanksgiving Pie Garland SVG

You can download the FREE “Thanksgiving Pie Garland” SVG file by entering your name and email below. You will then receive the file in a separate email which you can then download onto your computer or directly into your cutting machine software.

*NOTE* It is a zipped file with two SVG files – one for the pie pieces and one for the crust and lattice.

How to Assemble the Thanksgiving Pie Garland

*NOTE*  The instructions given below are specifically for a Silhouette Cameo, however, you can still make this project using your Cricut.  All you need to do is follow the equivalent steps in your Design Space.

Step 1

Gather all materials.

Step 2

Then, upload the Thanksgiving Pie Garland SVG files into your design software.  There are two.  One for the pie pieces and one for the crust pieces.

Step 3

Connect your machine and turn it on.

Step 4

Place your cardstock on the mat and load it into your machine.

Step 5

Send your design to be cut.

1. Highlight any triangles, pie crust, lattice pieces you do not need to be cut and click the “no cut” option.
2. For the Material Type, select the “Cardstock, Textured – Heavy”
3. For the Action, select the “cut” option.
4. For the Blade Depth: Based on the material type, the depth, force and speed will all be chosen for you.  However, you can manually change the settings before cutting.
5. Do a test cut!  Make any blade, force and speed adjustments needed.
6. Send your design to be cut.

Step 6

Remove the cut pieces from the mat and set aside.  Repeat Step 5 as many times as needed to get all your pie pieces cut.

Step 7: Pie Assembly

1. Apple Pie – Layer one lattice piece on top of one gold triangle.  Use the small circles to help you line it up.  Adhere the lattice piece to the gold triangle using roller tape. Set aside.  Repeat for all apple pie. *Optional* Add a pompom or cotton ball for whipped cream.
2. Pecan Pie – No assembly needed.
3. Pumpkin Pie – Heat up your glue gun.  Apply some glue to the middle of your orange triangle.  Add your pompom or cotton ball for whipped cream and set aside.  Repeat for all pumpkin pie.
4. Pie Crust – Fold all strips of tan paper accordion style to create crust.

Step 8: Garland Assembly

1. Thread your baker’s twine onto your needle.
2. Decide on the order you want your pie to be strung onto your twine.
3. Thread your needle through the back of the hole on the left, across to the second hole and through the top.  Repeat until all pie is threaded onto the twine.
4. Do not cut your twine yet.  Wait until step 10.

Step 9: Pie Crust Assembly

1. Heat up your glue gun.  Add glue on the top, to the left and right of the holes.
2. Stretch out your pie crust so it fits along the top, then press it down on top of the glue.
3. Repeat until all the crust has been glued onto the pie.

Step 10: Hang it up

1. Take your garland to the spot you want to hang it.
2. Space out the pie the way you want it.
3. Once you know how long the baker’s twine needs to be, cut the twine.

Step 11

Last, stand back and admire your fun new Thanksgiving Pie Garland!
