With school in session, the bulk of our kids’ days are spent away from us. When they get home, it’s easy to want to ask “how was school?” The problem with this question is that it’s too broad. How can your child(ren) sum up the last 6+ hours of their day? Granted, some kids are more willing to expand on their answer to this question. But many simply answer with a response of “fine” or “good”. So what can we do as parents to encourage them to share more about their day with us?

I’ve put together a list of 35 questions you can ask your kids after school, as well as 9 “games” to help you connect with your kids. The great thing about these questions is that you can ask them at any point: when you pick them up from school, when they get home from school (bus, walking), as dinner conversation starters or even as part of your bedtime routine.
