There’s something about Mother’s Day that always makes me want to create a handmade card to give. No matter what you include inside, the mama in your life will love this sweet and simple 3D heart card. You can give this card for Valentine’s, Mother’s Day or just because.
Supplies needed to create the Love You Mama 3D Heart Card
- Coordinating card stock
- Adhesive Tape Roller
- Silhouette or other cutting machine
- Cutting mat
- Love You Mama 3D Heart SVG (below)
How to get the Love You Mama 3D Heart SVG
You can download the FREE Love You Mama 3D Heart SVG by entering your name and email below. You will then receive the file in a separate email which you can then download onto your computer or directly into your cutting machine software.
How to Assemble Your 3D Card
*Note* For my card, I used a total of 4 coordinating pieces of card stock: one for the card itself, one for the heart and two for the word portion. The finished card measures 4″x5.5″.
First, you will need to cut out all the pieces. When you open the file in your design software, you will see all the elements to create the card. Gather your card stock and place it on your cutting mat. You can do this one of two ways:
- You can place all the pieces of cardstock on the cutting mat so they match up with what you see in your design software (turn on the grid for this option), then cut them all at once.
- You can ungroup the shapes and then move them around in the software so you are cutting them out one at a time by loading and unloading your cutting mat with your desired card stock.
Once everything has been cut, start by adding adhesive tape to the “love you mama” piece and centering it on the background shape. You can choose to add the middle pieces of the “O” and the “a” or leave them off, depending on your preference. (Alternatively, you could cut the words out with adhesive vinyl and stick them on that way.)
Next, make the 3D heart. Fold the perforated hearts in half. (One heart is not perforated and the other three are.) Glue two of the perforated hearts together on one side. Then glue the third heart to the other side of the second heart. Lastly, glue the perforated hearts down flat onto the non-perforated heart. Refer to the images below.
Now you just need to glue the word piece and the 3D heart onto the front of the card. Ta-da!
I love the added element of fun the 3D heart gives the completed card!
