History of the Ugly Christmas Sweater
The history of the ugly Christmas sweater dates back to the 1950s when the first “Jingle Bell Sweaters” were sold in stores as a festive way to celebrate holiday cheer. They weren’t considered ugly then but in the 1980s, shows like National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and The Cosby Show popularized wearing comically ugly sweaters. Then in 2002, the first official “ugly Christmas sweater party” was hosted in Vancouver, Canada, and the sweaters have been around ever since!
