Do you have a trip to the zoo coming up? If your kids are like mine, they get really excited to see all the animals at the zoo. They want to run around to see the different exhibits, but it can get chaotic pretty quickly.

Having an activity book, like this zoo passport printable, will give your kids some direction. Instead of running from place to place, they’ll have things to look for, write down and draw. And at the end of the visit, they’ll have something to remember their time at the zoo. Plus, they may have learned a thing or two while there!

This cute zoo passport printable activity book uses just one sheet of printer paper that folds up to create 8 pages of activities. (instructions below) We took it with us on our recent family trip to San Diego, CA, where we visited the world-renown San Diego Zoo.

It was fun for my older three kids (ages 5-11) and it doubles as a memento from our trip! (You could also use this zoo passport printable at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park in Escondido, CA which is only 35 minutes north of the San Diego Zoo.)

How to Assemble the Zoo Passport Printable Activity Book

*NOTE* The step-by-step image below shows the aquarium folding book, however, the folding instructions for the zoo passport are the same.

To assemble the folding book, first you need to fold the paper in half along the longest middle line. (step 1)

Then, unfold the paper. Rotate it 90 degrees and fold along the center line. (step 2)

Keeping that line folded, pick the left or right side and fold the edge towards the center. Rotate it 180 degrees and repeat. (step 3)

Next, unfold the two folds you just made, but keep the center line folded. Using a pair of scissors, cut along the solid line only. (step 4)

Now, open up the entire paper so that you can see all the pages. Take the left and right (short) sides and fold them in half along the crease you already made and push towards the center. You should have an “X” if you look at it from the top. (step 5 and 6)

Lay the paper on a flat surface and find the front cover. The page to the left of it is the back cover. Fold along this crease so you only see the front and back covers. All the other pages should fold in nicely so you end up with a little book. (step 7 and 8)

From here, you can use the book at your next visit to the zoo!

*PRO TIP* If you’d like the book to sit a little flatter, you can use a glue stick or double sided tape on the inside to adhere the cover/page 1 and page 4/page 5 together.

I hope this zoo passport printable activity book enriches your kids experience as they learn about the animals, reptiles and more at your local zoo!
