Building a strong foundation in marriage is essential to being able to handle challenges, trials and success. This month’s Date Night In Box was all about building a foundation of love through communication and working together toward a common goal.

When my husband and I were dating, we wanted to know everything we could about each other. So we had a lot of conversations about a lot of different topics: money, family, kids, goals, dreams, failures, school, religion, hobbies, childhood memories and experiences, and so much more. We worked on building trust, communicating openly and honestly, and creating memories. Each one of these things helped us build a solid foundation for our marriage. Yes, we had love, but without everything else, we would have struggled after getting married and facing challenges.
Fast forward, and we’ve both graduated from college, had three kids and we’ve been married almost 11 years. While the foundation we built when we were dating is still strong, it’s still important for us to fortify it. One of the ways we’ve been doing this is to try and have more regular date nights (and trust me, we’re not perfect at it). Even if we don’t actually make it out of the house for a date night, I know that we can have at least one date night planned each month because of our Date Night In box subscription.
Our most recent box was themed Foundation of Love so we had some ideas about the types of activities that would be included. Each of the three activities in our box were centered around having us communicate, work together and discuss. With some of our other boxes, the activities were done in a way that you could break them up and not have to do them all in the same date if you didn’t want to. However, this one was different because each activity built on the one previous to it.
At the end of our date, we had built a tower using the materials included in our box. Having done similar types of activities before, this particular box wasn’t my favorite; however, we laughed a lot and had fun working together to create each structure.
Date Night In Boxes are a great way to take some of the pressure away of planning a date. I want to spend time with my husband, but sometimes the thought of planning a date can be overwhelming. I also like how convenient it is because we can do the box any time during the month. If you’ve felt similar feelings about date night, then you should look into getting a Date Night In Box subscription! You can purchase month-to-month or in 3-, 6-, or 12-month increments, with the 12-month plan coming out at about $38/box. If you’re on the fence about trying it out, start with one month and then you can go from there!
