My family and I stayed at the Hallmark Resort in August 2022 as part of our Oregon Coast road trip and I have to say that I was impressed. We only stayed one night but I would happily have stayed for longer. Below you’ll find my review of the rooms and amenities, information about beach access and proximity to attractions.

The Rooms

Every room at the Hallmark Resort faces the beach. The rooms themselves are spacious, comfortable and clean. There was plenty of room for all of our suitcases (for 6 people) and other gear without feeling crowded.

Our family stayed in a room on the 4th floor which afforded us a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean from our balcony (the sunset was epic). We had a Limited Edition room which had 2 queen beds and one queen sofa sleeper. Additionally, we also enjoyed the small fireplace and kitchenette in the room.

The beds at the Hallmark Resort are the most comfortable hotel beds I’ve ever slept in. No lie. The pillow top mattresses felt like a dream, especially after spending so much time in the car during our trip.

Beach Access

Because of the way the Oregon Coast is, you’ll find that most homes and hotels are up higher than the beach itself. So you don’t walk right onto the beach, but rather, you have to access it by a trail or stairs. From our hotel room on the 4th floor, it took us about 5 minutes to reach the bottom of the stairs/trail and another couple minutes to walk to the ocean.

The Hallmark Resort has three beach access points, one on either side of the back of the hotel and one in the middle. Two have stairs all the way down to the beach. The other has some stairs but is mostly a sandy trail leading down to the beach. No matter which access point you use, you’ll land right on the beach, ready to take it all in. The stairs on the north side of the hotel had a rinsing station for your feet to wash the sand off.

*PRO TIP* Bring kites with you and fly them on the beach! There is always plenty of room and the perfect breeze. We bought a couple kites prior to our trip and kept them in the packaging until we were ready to use them. Or you could design your own kites with this fun DIY kit!

Other Amenities

After flying kites on the beach in the morning, we were a bit chilly from the breeze coming off the ocean. So we headed to the area just past the lobby for some complimentary hot chocolate. (They also had coffee and tea available.) This was a small thing that made a big difference to our family!

There is a saltwater swimming pool at the Hallmark, but unfortunately, we weren’t able to enjoy it before we had to check out. The hotel also has a small playground, volleyball court and horseshoe pits for kids and families who want to take a break from the beach.

Proximity to Attractions

The Hallmark Resort is only minutes away from a variety of attractions, shops and restaurants. I’ve listed a few below:

  • Oregon Coast Aquarium: 4 minutes *see my review here*
  • Yaquina Bay Lighthouse: 2 minutes
  • Ripley’s Believe It or Not: 4 minutes
  • Restaurants and Shops on the Bay (Newport Historic Bayfront): 4 minutes *you can see tons of sea lions on the docks here*

Overall, our stay at the Hallmark Resort in Newport, OR could not have been better. We were taken care of from the minute we checked in until we left. The rooms were welcoming and comfortable and the oceanfront views were spectacular. I would not hesitate to recommend the Hallmark Resort for anyone visiting Newport, OR.
